Go Skateboarding Day - Getting Bigger!

June 19, 2006

Go Skateboarding Day Creates The Largest Collective Skateboarding Event In History. Skateboarders Are Determined to Take Over the World on June 21st

Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. – June 19, 2006 – On June 21st, Go Skateboarding Day, while others are in their cubicle, skateboarders will take over the streets in a massive effort to hog all the fun in the world. Go Skateboarding Day, founded by The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), will make skateboarding history with more than 200 events around the world currently posted on www.goskateboardingday.org and many more happening without any promotion to speak of. Skateboarding will see the largest ever collective of skateboarding events happening simultaneously across the globe.

This massive celebration lead by passionate skateboarders is fueling the energy and growth of skateboarding. Skate shops participating in Go Skateboarding Day anticipate a rise in foot traffic, sales, and enthusiasm for the companies and individuals involved. In Mexico Urbeskate.com has created events for skateboarders in Guadalajara, Distrito Federal, and Monterrey. In Hampton, Virginia Mike’s Skateshop will have a police escort through the streets for the mayor’s declaration making the holiday official. Cowtown skateboards in Phoenix, Arizona, a participant in the holiday since it’s inception, will have a sale, video premiere, and a golden egg scavenger hunt.

“The Cowtown event is an perfect example of the creative spirit of skateboarding culture.” Says John Bernards, IASC Executive Director “This holiday is like Christmas and New Years all rolled together for skateboarders. The ones who are really passionate have been looking forward to the holiday for months, planning where they will be and what curb or rail their skateboard will kiss and the shops with the most creative events will be drawing them in.”

Skateboarding manufacturers are also playing a huge roll in bringing the fun to a city near you. In Dayton, Ohio the Alien Workshop pro team will make an appearance at the DC Skateplaza while the team over at Emerica has at least 10 events taking place across the world, the pro team will be riding their Harley’s across the U.S. to rally for a new skateplaza in Chicago. While Element Skateboards fires up the BBQ, DVS shoe company will generously pay for the kids in Simi Valley, California to skate at the Skate Lab. Long boarders will take over San Diego’s Pacific Beach as Sector 9 skateboards holds a poker run to the end of the board walk. Foundation and Dekline have even launched their own web site for the Great Skatepark Tour. Dwindle Distribution have gone legit, alerted the city and will hold fundraisers and contests in Venice Beach, California after being run out of the Hawthorne skatepark in 2005.

This is a small sampling of events and the community involved. The best ways to find out more are to visit goskateboardingday.org, your local skateboard shop, or just ask one of the 52 million skateboarders on the street.
